Hey everyone,
What do you think of videogame to movie conversions? I'm pretty much against them really, because they never do the game justice. They are usually watchable, I think only a few have been absolutely terrible *cough*WingCommander*cough.
Has anyone seen a really good videogame to movie adaptation? Do you think they should make a Prince of Persia movie?

I've found most of them to be acceptable (though I agree that Wing Commander was atrocious!). They have never been award-winning masterpieces, but I believe that it is partially because movies based on computer games would be rather difficult to make. The elements that make a good movie and those that make a good computer game are different. The first person sequence from Doom was so bad I nearly walked out, it was was as if the director got 3/4 he way through the movie and though "whoops, this is supposed to be based on a game" and threw that part in for good measure.
Also, they can't please everyone. If they kept the story EXACTLY the same as the game, then people who have played the game won't enjoy it, as they know exactly what will happen. If they change it, people will complain that it was different from the game.
I think we will see an improvement in movie-to-game (and game-to-movie) adaptations. Games are becoming so popular now that they can't be ignored by Hollywood. The Matrix tried (unsuccessfully in my opinion) to completely integrate the movie and the games, to the point where you won't know the whole story of the movie unless you play the games too. Peter Jackson personally oversaw the creation of Kong the game, and has been getting great reviews.
I hope they don't cancel the Prince of Persia movie, with a bit of luck it could be really good! |

I'm ashamed to say I actually like Jerry Bruckheimer productions.
So I guess I'm not gonna worry about the video game -> movie transition.
I heard some where that the movie's not going to have the exact same story line as in the TSOT game. Maybe it's a good thing coz that's what they did with the Pirates of the Carrabean and I loved that movie (another Jerry Bruckheimer/Disney venture). |

in general, video games aren't the best ideas for movies... you lose something in the transition.
that being said, i quite like resident evil 2, but that could be because i expected something totally **** and it wasn't too awful. |
